All of Sebastijan’s schoolboy earnings were dedicated to building his knife collection. A stint in the military only enhanced his deep respect for a well-made blade.

A man with a dream

As a young man with a vision, Sebastijan set his sights on embodying the American dream. Grieving the death of his mother, Sebastijan found escape and solace within the realm of knives. With determination and grit, he immersed himself in researching and learning the intricacies of knife making. Sebastijan found the knife community in the US surprisingly welcoming, sophisticated, and supportive. Taking the initiative, Sebastijan sought mentors and developed his skills as a knife maker.

Houson, Texas is home for Sebastijan where he wholeheartedly embraces the Texan way of life. Borka Blades first gained recognition for its outstanding fixed blades, notably the SB-1 and the SRambit. Sebastijan then developed tactical folding models. The iconic Stitch and SBKF not only demonstrated his technical prowess but also revealed his distinctive design sensibilities.

Anthony Marfione

Sebastijan Berenji's journey in the world of knife making took an exciting turn when his unique designs caught the attention of Microtech Knives CEO, Tony Marfione. Marfione, captivated by Berenji's innovative approach to knife crafting, recognized the possibility of a dynamic collaboration. Under Tony’s guidance, Sebastijan furthered his skills. The partnership between Sebastijan and Tony Marfione not only brought together two visionary minds but also resulted in the creation of exceptional knives that seamlessly blend the craftsmanship of Borka Blades with the precision engineering of Microtech Knives.

 

Mike Bond

The Shylock, a collaboration with machinist Mike Bond of Ti2Design, Bond Knives, marries artistic design with precision engineering. Tony Marfione and Sebastijan flew to Hawaii in 2023 for a triple collaboration with Mike Bond. The bourbon flowed, the cigars were good, and the knife was pristine. Expect to see another triple collab in the future.

John Gray

John Gray played a crucial role when Sebastijan, new to the country and learning English, sought guidance in making knives. Approaching John at a knife show, Sebastijan asked for mentorship, and John, recognizing his potential, generously taught him the craft. This mentorship became the catalyst for Borka Blades, with John guiding Sebastijan to craft his first fixed blade—a pivotal moment in realizing Sebastijan's dream. Custom collaborations such as the SBTF stand as a testament to their enduring mentor-mentee relationship, showcasing collaborative excellence born from shared passion for knife making.

Dalibor Bergam

Dalibor Bergman, renowned for his exceptional sole authorship knives, shares a longstanding friendship with Sebastijan Berenji, dating back to their upbringing in the Balkans. Despite residing on opposite sides of the Atlantic, their enduring friendship and mutual support have persisted over the years. As both craftsmen have advanced in their individual skill levels, they've successfully collaborated on one or two projects, with the hope and anticipation of further collaborations in the future.
